You might not have discovered digital readers yet.
Well in a nutshell it is like a paper-back, only it is an electronic reading device. It is about the same size as a small paper-back book and it looks very much like real paper and print as you read it.
Would you like to benefit from digital readers now?
The really cool thing is that instead of having just one book, some digital readers are capable of holding a couple of hundred eBooks, magazines or daily newspapers. Can you imagine how it would feel to take a small library away with you on your trips? You can carry it in your coat pocket or bag………….Oh, and weighing in at less than a pound in weight?
How can I increase my eBook sales?
Oprah just endorsed a major brand of digital eBook reader on her show very recently. Actually, saying she endorsed it is an understatement. She actually said it was, “her new favorite thing.” Do you understand what that is going to do for digital reader sales? Through the roof this Christmas! So combine her glowing endorsement with other glowing reviews you can find elsewhere, plus your eBooks and you have a golden opportunity to cash in this Christmas.
Just imagine checks coming in from a major online book seller in time for you to perhaps buy your own digital reading device for Christmas? Get in now and get people buying your books and get one up on the competition so you are already in the front of their mind.
You can tap into this lucrative market for your eBooks and profit very quickly with just a bit of effort and some inside info.
Digital readers are getting so much attention now, that the buyers of eBooks cannot help but see the advantages of carrying their own personal library around to read where and when they choose. They will always have the book they want and when they want it. Access to thousands of publications is instantaneous.
Most NY Times best sellers are available for less than ten bucks for digital readers!
Are you up for increasing the profits from your eBooks?
Would you like to harness the power of a major online retailer to help you make more money? Well you can, yes you, but you need to take action to do so.
If you have an eBook, that’s great. If you do not, don’t worry as you can get one written for you for a few hundred dollars on almost any subject you care to mention by simply posting an idea and some chapter headings on an online writer’s site and people will bid to do the writing and research for your digital reader format book.
All you need to do is give it a title, edit and add a cover and voila! You now have an eBook ready to upload to a digital reader site in time for Christmas.
If you do not fancy that idea, then see how many private label rights you have on your computer and compile the content of two or three and make one eBook to see for very little layout. You can even call it your own in most cases.
Don’t get left behind as the really astute eBook authors are already using the power of digital readers to get their books in front of a new generation of readers. This market is going to explode as thousands of new people search for information each day.
Don’t delay. Market you eBooks in a new way today to help explode your sales.

Learning how to publish and market your own ebook can really be life changing for you. It’s a great way to earn an income and establish your credibility. The great thing about ebooks is that anyone can write and publish their own book!First of all, you need to understand what an ebook is. Basically, it’s a book that comes in a downloadable format on the Internet. Many people read these right on their computers, while others read them on ebook reading devices. You can make money creating ebooks because there are so many people looking for information out there. Many people who are online are either searching for solutions to a problem or are fulfilling a passion or hobby. If you target one of these markets with your own, quality ebook you can earn a great income. It’s also very easy to publish your own ebook. Don’t let the fear of it hold you back! You’ll first write your ebook in a format like .DOC or .TXT. Then, you’ll need to convert it into ebook format. The most commonly used is PDF. There is free software on the Internet that will turn your document into a PDF with a few button clicks! Open Office is a great choice for Word Processing software because it allows you to write your ebook and save it as a PDF. After you’ve written your ebook and made sure it contains everything you want it to, you need to market it! There are definitely some things you need to make sure you do to successfully sell your ebook. The first thing is to get a website up with what is called a sales letter. This sales letter is just what it sounds like! It’s a letter to your prospective customers telling them about all the benefits they will get from buying and reading your ebook. Remember, you want to focus on the result they can get if they buy. When you appeal to their emotions, you’ll get a lot more sales!Of course, getting your site up isn’t enough. You also need to drive traffic to your site. There are many different ways to do this. One way is to write articles that are related to your ebook and submit them to directories like EzineArticles.com. These article sites have visitors looking for more information that might be interested in your ebook. You can also bid on Pay Per Click ads like Google Adwords. You’ll pay a certain amount per click to get people to visit your site. Your hope is that you sell enough copies to make up for how much you are spending in ad costs.Yet another way to make sure you get some sales is to add some articles to your own site to Search Engine Optimize it. Search engines like Google like to index sites that provide relevant content, and often rank them higher in their listings. The more content you have, the more likely you are to be ranked. There you have it. That is a beginner’s crash course on what an ebook is and how you go about selling that ebook to customers. Taking these steps can literally be life changing for you.

Don’t have a website to sell your ebook? You don’t need one anymore thanks to the Amazon Kindle! Learn how you can publish an ebook on Amazon’s Kindle portable ebook reader here.

We have all seen those web-pages that offer the one “secret” to making massive amount of money online, generating more traffic then you could ever imagine or some other empty promise that the author could never deliver upon.

For the Internet marketing newbie, most of these products will leave you so confused and misguided that you will never succeed. Most of them are filled with regurgitated information that the author heard from someone else and now trying to pass off as their own, despite the fact that they have never actually done “it,” by producing their own original product.

It goes without saying that many of the products sold for hundreds of dollars are nothing more than elaborate and wordy marketing pitches, that contain little to no information. Their “secret websites” that they recommend you join are ones they either own or are an affiliate of. It’s all smoke and mirrors, and you will never make a dollar using their recommendations, reselling their products, surfing their website or becoming an affiliate of their “system” unless you already know what you are doing, at which point you don’t need them anyway.

Here is a little secret about the Internet Marketing and eBook publishing business. Those that make money produce and promote their own products first, and they do it with passion and flair.

While 95% of the competition is focused entirely on make money or Internet marketing based topics, the best eBook publishers steer clear of these topics to find hidden niches just waiting for their information. If you are just starting out trying to publish your own product, you should create products that are not based on online and money making topics, but instead ones that have real world application to people’s lives.

So are you likely to make money online selling eBooks? It really depends on how creative and motivated you are to bring your product to market, in addition to what sort of understanding you have of Internet marketing. If you understand what goes into a quality product, how to produce or package it in a form that people want to buy, and then how to get it in front of people, you should do well. If you don’t the probability of selling your product will be low.

Whether you’re majoring in journalism, minoring in writing or just taking a few night classes in feature writing, the thought of seeing your name in print may be exciting. As rewarding as a great paper on assignment can be, many students dream of seeing their article hit the big time. Every year, thousands of students publish articles. Here’s how.

Hit up the campus press
Drop by your campus paper and ask if they take student submissions. College newspapers are usually run by volunteers and eager for extra help.

Look for student pages
The Ottawa Citizen, a major newspaper, published the first article I ever submitted. I originally sent it to their student writing section, but the editor liked it so much that he elevated it to the Op/Ed spread. As a result, I got paid for my 800-word article. But, for me, nothing beat the satisfaction of seeing my name at the top of a column. Check your local paper to see if they publish articles by students — it may be a good way to catch the eye of an editor.

Write letters to the editor
A good letter shows you have a command of writing, research skills, persuasive argument techniques, and gumption. It might not be the same as a published article, but a letter to the editor helps keep your name in front of editors. In fact, I know a magazine editor who still writes letters to the editor, just to keep his writing skills fresh.

Start a blog on a hot topic
By writing a blog, you can show expertise in a subject area — and maybe make some money from ads. By focusing on a key subject area — as opposed to your roommate’s latest foible or the life of your cat — you can build a following. Later, you can include your blog in your portfolio, as evidence of your ability to write for real audiences, optimize for search engines and keep on top of a subject.

Query editors
Grab a copy of Writer’s Market and write up some query letters. Send your queries and writing samples to small publications, especially those that don’t pay. Struggling publications with limited budgets are hungrier for good writing. Once you’ve established a track record, you can query bigger publications.

Turn your papers into ebooks
Publish your articles as ebooks and sell them through websites. Some ebook publishers even allow you to publish printed copies and sell on demand via the publishers’ websites.

Student journalism and writing programs offer you opportunities to refine and reflect your writing. But getting your articles published is the icing on the cake. Try the above tricks and look forward to seeing your name on the byline.

My story is that an author who’d done online writing for such dot gone as Theme stream, Written By Me, and The Vines, someone trying hard to have fiction, poetry and nonfiction in print for real, recommended PublishAmerica. She claimed it was a traditional book publisher. I was struck with their slogan, “We treat writers the old fashioned way – we pay them.” Wasn’t that what publishers were supposed to do?

But since my novel was just sitting on the Discus Publishing site and doing nothing but supplying me with enough money to buy a pair of skate laces every three months, I thought maybe it would have a better chance over at PublishAmerica where it would be available as a trade size paperback both on and off-line.

So this author, Ellen Du Bois, had a big thing on her Geocities site about books being available in brick & mortar bookstores & they’d have ISBN numbers and be online and all that stuff. Also had her full size book cover up so I sat there for 5 minutes waiting for the damn thing to appear. Not impressive, but she liked it. Ellen was a cheerleader for her book and sent reviews from a weekly community rag and she bulk e-mailed several pieces of correspondence during those heady days when her book was in prerelease, then release stage in the summer of ’03. I broke down and bought a copy from Amazon – took almost 3 weeks to get. And I struggled to read all 176 pages. Tripe. Clichés abounded. Spelling/grammatical errors weren’t there at least. But the writing was thin. The story moved too quickly. The main character was the most realistic as it was most likely based on the author. The dialogue was okay. The descriptions were minimal. Had there been a real editor, the book could’ve been very good. I wrote to Ellen and told her the positive things about the story, avoiding the negativities. She’d been an online correspondent for almost two years, yet after I didn’t review her book on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble she didn’t contact me. Almost a year later she sent me another e-mail – to promote a book of her poetry. I was just someone to sell a book to and she was only interested in the sale and hopefully a glowing write up.

A Future PublishAmerica Author

Since I’d already signed the contract with PublishAmerica, I wanted to cancel it after reading that trash. Now my book would be affiliated with a company that put out just about any piece of writing that came its way. I wasn’t expecting much what with my dealings with the extinct eNovel and RJ’s eBooks, along with a tiny eBook publisher named Crafts Across America where I wasn’t paid monthly as promised. And my novel and short story collection languished at Discus, home of the alleged Number One Best selling eBook author of all time, Leta Nolan Childers.

PublishAmerica sent me an author’s questionnaire where they asked for basic biographical information; cover art suggestions, and a long list of people who might want to read my forthcoming novel.

“Please prepare a list (names, and addresses,) of people who know you well enough to be interested in your success as a writer: personal friends, colleagues, relatives, etc., to receive a book announcement…Please limit your list and your labels to a maximum of 100 contacts. Also, please do not include businesses or organizations of any kind, including bookstores, media contacts, or government organizations. Include friends and associates only.”

The editing process of my manuscript took two weeks over the Christmas holidays. I was able to ascertain that the first few pages had been read as some minor alterations had been made, but no changes followed for other 50 or so pages. One of the errors that occurred was clearly the result of a spellchecker on the part of PublishAmerica as a question mark appeared after the end of a statement. I’d read of real authors receiving instructions to change chapters, alter endings, delete numerous pages, in other words, really struggle to rewrite a book. Why so much effort? Names. Reputation. The publisher wanted to put their name on the best quality book that they had invested in. The author wanted a book that was saleable but also well written and something they were proud of. PublishAmerica’s editing comprised neither ideal as all they did was put the computer program’s spelling/grammar checker into action.

My two free author’s copies arrived in early March and it was nice to see my trade paperback book in print sans a cheesy cover and stapled spine. ‘North of Sunset’ actually had decent looking stock cover art of a few silhouetted palm trees, a noticeable font, and a spine where the book title, publisher and author’s name was apparent. It would look good on bookstore shelves, I imagined.

Reviews – What Reviews?

What was Publish America doing to make sure my book was reviewed? Nothing. I decided to contact local daily and weekly newspapers by e-mailing a press release. The only responses I got were two e-mail autoresponders announcing the editors were on vacation.

I spent $40 on copies of my book’s galley and mailed them to three national newspapers and the Library Journal magazine. Then I phoned a book reviewer at the ‘San Diego Union-Tribune’ and asked if he’d be interested in reviewing my book but before I could even describe what it was about, he asked who my publisher was. I told him. “We don’t review books by that publisher,” he stated.

I called all the local bookstores and spoke to the managers and/ or community relations people about my book, including a couple of stores who were physically located on the street I’d written about. An independent bookstore owner told me that since PA didn’t have a return policy she was unable to stock my novel. Another said that I could sell my book on consignment. The chain stores of Borders and Barnes & Noble said my book would be available through Ingram if anyone chose to order it.

Tried getting PublishAmerica to send review copies out and it took them weeks to do so. Had to call and make sure on two occasions that the books had been mailed. Maybe quoting one of their enthusiastic promoters on the message board, a guy with a natural genius for marketing and the budget to back it up, got three books sent to reviewers.

Then I sent my book to Piers Anthony, noted sci-fi and fantasy author of more than 100 books. I’d been in touch with him since 2000 when I alerted him to the fact that eNovel was a rip-off. Although the action in his books usually took place in alternate time periods/universes, he didn’t mind reading a mainstream Hollywood novel. He did so. “North of Sunset by Lisa Maliga. She’s the one listed in my Survey as I’m a Published Novelist Ha Ha! Ha!, a pertinent warning for starry-eyed aspiring writers. Her web site www.lisamaliga.com is worth checking similarly; she tells it as it is. If you took a few decades off my age and changed my gender, the result might resemble Lisa. North of Sunset is fun, about a Hollywood producer and his temporary secretary, showing a good deal of what I presume is reality. It is written with the omniscient viewpoint, which I dislike, but it held my interest regardless. ”

I’d discovered through an upset PA author on the message boards, which I read on occasion, that someone was complaining about PublishAmerica. Discovering the Absolute Write Background Check area I spent several hours reading, at the time, more than 40 pages of complaints about PublishAmerica. Authors not receiving books in time for book signings that they set up themselves. Bookstore owners/managers refusing to stock their shelves with unedited PublishAmerica titles. Writers unable to get their books reviewed.

Doing a search on LexisNexis, the reputable online legal research system, for all PublishAmerica books receiving newspaper reviews, I saw that from July 2002 to June 2004, only 24 books had been reviewed nationally. Papers in Syracuse NY, Tulsa, OK, Fort Pierce, FL, Wilmington, NC and Lakeland, FL were represented. Only Salt Lake City’s ‘Deseret Morning News’, the ‘Tulsa World’, ‘Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’ and the suburban paper, the ‘Chicago Daily Herald’ were actually major newspapers. Evidently, the ‘New York Times’ or the ‘Los Angeles Times’ were not reviewing anything by PublishAmerica’s authors. According to the PublishAmerica site in the Facts and Figures section, “Fact #3: Again, unparalleled among all traditional book publishing companies, each day an average 15 times a PublishAmerica author appears in the news media, in newspapers, magazines, radio or TV.” Yet even mathematically challenged folks can determine that by using the LexisNexis search statistics, we learn that the average is a paltry once a month that a PublishAmerica book gets mentioned in a newspaper somewhere in the United States.

Editing – What’s That?

Here’s a gem of a post on the PublishAmerica message board: “When it came out in book form a month ago, my friends mentioned the editing problems in it, so a friend of mine with a masters in education went through it for me. It had close to a thousand editing errors in a 182-page book. So, have some who actually knows what literary content should be in a book, go through your book for you before you send the final draft back to PublishAmerica. Because the final draft, IS!, how the book will be when it comes out.”

I discovered that through the misspellings, grammatical errors, and general bad writing that just about anyone was publishable through the ‘traditional’ publisher located in Frederick, Maryland. Such postings as: “I too am not the best editor LOL! I did get my finished books. And when I met with a lady that is huge in the marketing field, she told me that my book at it’s length of 132 pages needs to have chapters.” A couple of PublishAmerica authors discussed editing. “I felt like you did when I found errors, but then I realized, hey people read it for the story, not looking for mistakes in typo land! LOL Now I just keep on a keeping on!”

Sales Figures

Question: I’d really like to know how many copies I’ve sold.

Answer: Buy all of the books yourself and then count them.

No matter how naïve PublishAmerica authors appeared, they will eventually come to the realization that PublishAmerica isn’t really a traditional publisher, especially when those twice-yearly royalty checks arrived. Every few months or so PublishAmerica sent them an e-mail extolling their success, bragging about a big name author they’re negotiating with, or, more recently, doing a deal with the New York Times. On August 17th, an e-mail bearing the proud subject heading ‘Advertising Our Top sellers in the New York Times’ appeared in author’s online mailboxes.

PublishAmerica was well named in that they want to publish anyone in North America who has churned out a manuscript, regardless of quality. They claim to have anywhere from 9,000 to 12,000 “happy” authors and they want more and more of them as that obviously means more money for the greedy owners, namely Willem Meiner and Larry Clopper.

The PublishAmerica name and logo is seen as a joke to those in the media, bookstores and libraries. Books can’t be returned. All PublishAmerica titles lack the necessary CIP [Cataloging-in-Publication] data, which is necessary for libraries to order titles, and who wants to read unedited and overpriced tomes other than the author’s cronies? Oh yeah, and while PublishAmerica claims that they’re a ‘traditional publisher’ why on earth do they have in their main page keywords list the term ‘self publishing’ three times? And in their site’s description, they brag: “PublishAmerica, Inc., a traditional publisher, accepting and publishing manuscripts and books at NO CHARGE to the author. Royalties paid to writers, books sold in stores. Manuscript submissions by mail and online”

In the beginning of September I received a royalty check. To my surprise, I was not only able to afford to buy a pair of laces for my skates, I shelled out the $12 it cost to sharpen my blades. Who knew that this company would provide extra income enabling me to continue participating in my recreational skating hobby? But it cost me more than the $160 in author-bought books, the $40 for galleys, which were probably plunged into a recycling bin, the $87 color business cards, $20 press release — and the countless hours building and rebuilding my website so people would happen across it and buy a book that was only available online–like any other eBook.

PublishAmerica allows the myth of being a ‘traditional’ publisher, a term not used before the advent of the Internet, to fester. The lie is perpetrated in those HTML source codes that search engine spider robots deliver; the future authors led to the promised realm of publishing, an internet web of woven myths fanning across cyberspace. PublishAmerica resembles most other ePublishing companies promising tales of bestselling books and authors. PublishAmerica is just another scam, just another future dot gone.

Most writers claim that ‘writing’ is the painless part of being a writer- the real challenge begins when you attempt to publish your masterpiece. The book industry can be a really hard one to crack, especially if you’re a newbie. No need to panic though – if you’re reading this, all your publishing problems are nearly over!

This guide explores; Publishing thorough an Agency, Mainstream Publication, Self Publishing, Local Publishing Companies and eBook Publication. It furthers to explore life after your book has been published. So whether your interests lie in large international exposure for you book, or self publishing, simply read on for a detailed tour of the publishing industry.

Option 1) Publishing through an Agency

The Process

The first step to saving time whilst publishing is making sure that you avoid writing something that will never be read! My advice to anyone who aspires to publish something is to find a literary agent . This is a great time saver as, when you have an agent, you will never again waste time writing something that may be defined as ‘unmarketable’. To further explain – the literary network is very closely knit i.e. in order to have your book published; you would need to go through specific channels. A strict system has been designed to maintain a sense of order in the realm of literature.

Now, an agent can help you weave your way through the system – especially if you are a first timer. An agent is an individual who is able to help you through much of the information filtering process. A recommendation from an agent almost guarantees that your manuscript will be read by a publishing house. Essentially, the role of an agent is to read and approve your manuscript or any ideas that you may have i.e. queries and proposals.

The agent will then decide whether your venture could be successful. If so, the agent will further to draw up a contract with you. Contracts of this nature usually express the agent’s promise to use his/her best efforts to get your manuscript into a publishing house – the exchange is usually about 15% of the entire deal. Your new agent will then work extremely hard to sell your idea.

Agent Hunting

There are usually 2 types of agents – those who work with fiction and those who work with non-fiction. The easiest way to find your match is by paging through a publishing guide/directory, which lists the functions of a variety of agents in great detail i.e. ‘Guide to Literary Agents’. It is important to take note of any previous books that have been published by the agent/s that you are interested in – usually an agent will take interest in a particular theme, and stick to working with ideas along its lines.

Contacting an Agent

Once you have compiled a list of potential agents, feel free to start contacting them. The best way to do this is via a query letter. In essence, a query letter a short introduction of yourself and your idea – it should feed the agent enough information to arouse interest, but not too much to bore him/her. This is a suggested letter structure:

Remember, this letter is merely an ‘appetizer’ so keep it short and simple.

Proposal Preparation

After sending your initial query letter to an agent, he/she would normally follow up by requesting a proposal. Essentially, your proposal is a document that accurately outlines an idea for a book. Here’s idea of what your proposal should contain:

Contracts

Happy Day! So your proposal finally earns you a thumbs up…now what? It’s time to get into some paper work. The best part about this section is that you are not bearing the work load anymore. Your new agent will now send you a contract. These contracts are usually short documents that you can probably work though on your own, so no need for an attorney.

You just need be careful about two things – firstly, that your agent is not looking to exclusively represent you for over 12 months, and secondly that you are not going to billed for the cost of office overhead if your book does not do well on the market.

Once the contract has been signed, your agent will send you a copy of your original proposal with a few editorial suggestions. As soon as you finalize your proposal’s contents, your agent will start pitching your idea to the ‘big boys’ i.e. publishing companies. Once you get the go-ahead as well as the funding, feel free to start writing…Microsoft Word will be your new home!

Option 2) Mainstream Publication

The Process

This option is slightly similar to the first; however the two do have a few minor differences. The primary difference is that the ‘middle man’ or agent is no longer involved i.e. the first step that you need to take in the field of mainstream publication, is directly locating a publisher. Once again, you can feel free to look through a publishing directory or make use of a search engine. This way, you can choose a publisher, that best suits you. As soon as you have made contact with a publishing house and managed to spark a bit of interest, you might be requested to ‘pitch’ your book to the company in person.

The Pitch & Self Marketing

Now if consider yourself to be a great public speaker, this could be your moment to shine – if not, just remember that you will only be speaking to a few suits! The pitch is almost a verbal explanation of everything you would express in a proposal – if you happen to be unfamiliar with the guidelines for a proposal, simply follow the outline mentioned in option 1.

If you choose to publish via mainstream publication, it is important to note that you must be able to market yourself. Even if you do get lucky and a publishing house chooses to publish your book, you will still have to do a major part of the marketing – keep that in mind when it comes to your budget as it will help to have some additional money to use for publicity.

Risks/Benefits

The obvious benefit of publishing via a mainstream company is the possible exposure that you and your book could attain. On a large scale, the scope of various mainstream publication houses extends from local to international. The greatest risk involved in using this method of publication, is the risk of rejection. You may even be rejected before publication as well as after. It is not often that a well-known publishing company would risk a dollar on an unknown author – so prepare yourself for possible rejection after your pitch. Even if your book does get accepted for publication, rejection is still a factor in terms of your book’s marketability and it is highly unlikely that your publisher will pick up the bill should your book not be successful.

Option 3) Self Publishing – (POD) Print/Publish on Demand

The Process

This option refers to printing a book at the time of purchase. It is an innovative method of publishing books that saves money, time and supplies. The printing industry is ecstatic about this method of publication as it means that books no longer need to be warehoused until purchased.

This method of publication allows you to handle the design work of your book or opt for a service/package that offers cover design, formatting and editing. Various companies offer these services. These companies will assist you in the areas that you may need help – from the time that your book has been ordered to the delivery. The POD will actually help you list your book on Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com and other major bookstores by hooking you up with an ISBN. Here’s how the process works:

Budget

While this type of publishing has become increasingly popular in the industry, it is important to note that it requires you fork out a bit of your own money – each book will cost you approximately $5.

Risks/Benefits

This option has various benefits. Firstly, most of the companies involved will accept any type of work, no matter who you are – so rejection is not something that you will have to worry about. Secondly, if you are involved with the design and formatting personally, your book automatically will gain a unique edge. Finally, the POD handles distribution and order fulfilment. This means that when you book has been ordered; the POD will print a copy of your book, ship it and pay you a royalty of approximately 30% of the purchase price – leaving you with less grey hair! With regards to the risks involved, it is important to note that the owner of the ISBN also owns the book’s copyright, so be careful with that and make sure that you purchase your book’s ISBN under your name, not the vanity publisher.

Option 4) Local Publishing Companies

The Process

Local commercial printing companies use the same technology as PODs. Feel free to browse through a publishing directory or just your local directory for a list of companies that offer publishing services. Your next step is to contact the publishing house that you have chosen.

Budget

While prices may vary, expect to pay 3 cents per black and white page i.e. a 200-page book could cost you approximately $6.50.

Print Style Options

Your first choice in terms of printing style is between color printing and black & white printing. This will dictate the cost that you will need to budget for. Most companies offer digital printing, so you can choose the amount of copies that you want printed at the time of publication. In terms of cover design, you are only limited by your own creativity – once again you are free to take charge of your own design. Binding on the other hand, will be handled by the company and is included in the original price per page.

Risks/Benefits

When you publish through a local company, you must take note that the printer will print precisely what you send – this is without any revision or editing. It is crucial that your book is proofread before submission. Also with this option, you will still have to promote your book, fill and ship all orders.

Option 5) eBook Publication

What is an eBook?

An eBook is an electronic copy of your book that may be purchased, downloaded and read immediately online. It can serve a variety of purposes i.e. advertising, the gathering of potential customer’s information and the generation of interest. Not only does this option provide the media for a sample publication of you incomplete book, but it also allows for full publication of your book once it is complete – thus you can sell the electronic version of your book, as if it were a hard copy.

The Process

This option may be deemed the most convenient and economical way to publish a book. Here is a basic outline of the process:

Risks/Benefits

There are various benefits related to this new wave of publication. Firstly, it requires you to spend little to no money out of your own pocket. Thus, there is very little financial risk involved. Secondly, your book can be published from the comfort of your own home…a few clicks here and there is all that it takes. Finally, from a marketing perspective, an eBook opens up various avenues for advertising – it allows you to add links within your book, directing the reader anywhere that you would like i.e. this gives you a chance to expand your business network. Once again, you must remember that you are in charge of your book’s marketing.

Irrespective of the method of publication that you choose, you will need to master manuscript writing…Here’s a handy guide on how to correctly format your manuscript.

Try to make use of this type of formatting prior to submitting it to an agent or publisher. At first glance you may think that these standards may not be aesthetically pleasing, but don’t stress, your publisher should send your original manuscript to a ‘formatter’ that standardizes the format during publication.

Basic Formatting Rules

Life After Publication

Even though your book is now on its way to mass production, you need not let your relaxation period be short lived – don’t become overridden with anxiety about publicity, marketing and even worse, sales!

For a stress free way to boost sales and keep abreast of your new book’s performance you should consider subscribing to a promotions and sales tracking company.

With modern publishing methods, like self-publishing and eBook publication in mind, it is easy to understand why sales tracking has become a common pastime for most writers. Because most publishing options force you to take charge of your book’s marketing, it may be a good idea for you to make use of an online service to help you track the sales of your book and handle do a bit of book promotion on your behalf.

Taking this into consideration, let’s take look at the sales ranking and promotions company, RankTracer. This company will do some online promotion and track your book at the same time – giving you on-the-hour sales rank information, graphs, reports and actual sales estimates.

With an external company tracking your sales and offering you a bit of extra help with book promotion, you are left with more time on your hands to use as you please – feel free to explore book-signings, tours, public talks and even blog about your new book!

So now you know! I trust that you found my walk through the publishing industry informative. Hopefully it has answered a few of your publishing queries and has helped you find the perfect publishing fit for you. Good luck and happy publishing!

Investing your time in eBook publishing can be extremely beneficial. Granted, there are several things that go into creating an eBook, but the financial bliss you can achieve is unbelievable. All you need is a little help getting started and expertise in a certain areas. Nonfiction eBooks is one of the hottest areas in publishing today. Step 1: Find your niche. This is completely up to you, and if you want the eBook publishing process to go a lot faster, then find a topic that you already know and understand. The more expertise you have in the field, the easier it will be to start your eBook publishing career. However, if you want to find something new and hot that people are itching to buy, you may need to use some software to help you along the way. Step 2: Use a good software tool. Whether it’s the Google keyword tool, Brainstorm-it from Site-Build-It, or Micro Niche Finder from James Jones, each one of them can help you find the perfect niche for your eBook publishing campaign. Each one allows you to narrow your search to a specific niche that has low competition, but high searches every month. Step 3: Write a short eBook. This is very important, especially if this is your first eBook publishing campaign. Try to keep it somewhere in between 60 to 90 pages. It’s also important to understand what type of approach you are going to take when writing. Maybe your niche requires a technical version, but it’s possible a little humor and conversational appeal will be important as well. You should also think about the sub-topics and what angle you will be taking your readers. Step 4: Create a landing page. If you’re not familiar with landing pages they are the places people “land” when clicking on a link. Normally, this is the area where most individuals stop thinking about eBook publishing and get into something else. The difficulties of learning how to create a landing page are enough to scare anyone. However, you can utilize software like Site-Build-It that offers you the ability to create a landing page without having to learn all the technical HTML knowledge. Step 5: Use Adwords to market your eBook. Even though it may take you some time to learn and understand Adwords, it’s a fast way to promote your eBook. However, make sure you set up a budget for your keywords and phrases. Finding good keywords at inexpensive prices with a high number of searches will be important, but setting a budget will be smarter. This will allow you to monitor your words and figure out which ones are the most successful without spending a ton of money. Step 6: Set up a payment processor. You’re going to need to have help processing the payments since you won’t be on the computer 24/7. Use a service like ClickBank. In fact, when you peruse their website you will see hundreds of people promoting information products. They also have developed one of the largest affiliate marketing programs available for informational products. If you use ClickBank’s Marketplace, you can take advantage of their affiliate programs and have affiliates promoting your informational product. It could end up being a monumental boom in sales. Step 7: Keep promoting. Even though Adwords will get you started in the right direction you should still utilize other avenues. Be sure to take your eBook publishing skills to social networks, article marketing campaigns, video campaigns, email marketing, and everything else available. The more you have out there, the easier it will be to sell and promote your eBook. Step 8: Remember that you just have to find your niche, get comfortable with a good software tool, write a short eBook, create a landing page, use Adwords, set up a payment processor, and keep promoting.

Why on earth would anyone want to do that? There are only 3 possible reasons:
1)	Money
2)	Fame/Fortune
3)	Self Fulfilment
In my case, I publish ebooks for money – the number 1 motivation behind all ebooks on the internet today.
But do you even know how to start?
Do you have any idea about the topic you want to write about?
How about the actual compilation of the ebook?
What about marketing the ebook once you’ve compiled it?
All of these factors need to be addressed before you start work on your project.
First of all, you’ll need to get the logistics right. Will you be writing your ebook in MS Word or will you be typing it directly into some sort of ebook publishing software?
Most authors start their work in MS Word and then transfer it to an ebook compiler software program when they have finished.
Which topic will you write about? Many experienced authors suggest that you write about a topic you are passionate about. This is common sense and works well if you know a lot about one particular topic.
Most people don’t have in-depth knowledge in one particular area which limits their chances of writing a concise ebook.
However, there are ways around this and you can pick up more information about writing for money from http://www.ebook-publishing-software.com
For example, you can visit www.elance.com and hire “ghost writers” to write an ebook for you which you can then sell online.
Next, you need to decide which format you’d like your ebook available in. PDF ebooks are quite common and can be read by anyone who has Adobe Reader installed on their computer.
Unfortunately, PDF ebooks are not as secure as EXE ebooks. EXE ebooks are made using specific ebook publishing software programs.
Some Ebook Software titles include:
Ebook Pro
Ebook Edit Pro
Activ Ebook Compiler
Easy Ebook pro
Ebook Starter
and much more…
Read reviews about these ebook generators at

http://www.ebook-publishing-software.com

The disadvantage of using EXE ebook makers to compile and distribute your work is the fact that they can’t be used on Macintosh computers. If you want to cater for 90% of computer users, then an EXE ebook will be fine. If you wish to compile for absolutely everyone, you’ll need the less secure PDF method of compiling.
Once compiled, use the in-built password/security features of the ebook software to protect your ebook if you need to.
What do you do once you have you’re ebook ready for distribution to the World Wide Web?
Now, you need to start thinking about marketing. There are many ways to market your ebook but the most common method is to build a website explaining the benefits of your ebook. Explain what problems it can solve for the reader.
To drive traffic to your website, you can do several things , each of which take time and hard work.
1)	Optimize your website for visits from the Search Engines so you may rank higher than your competitors.
2)	Pay for visits to your website by advertising on Google Adwords or any other Pay-Per-Click advertising method.
3)	Pay a company a set fee to deliver thousands of visitors to your site
In addition to the above, there are many ways to bring visitors to your site. For example, you can buy pop-under traffic, expired domain traffic, newspaper advertising, ezine advertising and joint ventures.
Once you start to get a steady stream of visitors to your site, you’ll start to see your ebook sales rise.

The first thing that you need to do when you want to know how to publish an eBook is to learn how to convert the text into PDF format. An ebook in PDF format makes it easy for it to be sent to anyone electronically and also so that it can be read on devices such as Kindle, which is used for reading Ebooks. The good news is, it is easy to convert test to PDF if you use the right software.

After you have finished converting your book into PDF format, you should then copyright the eBook and get an ISBN number through the library of congress. Once your eBook has been copyrighted and has an ISBN number, it is technically considered published. You can name yourself as the publisher of the eBook and get ready to market it.

Even if you learn how to publish an eBook on your own, you still need to market the product. You can send it to sites where they sell eBooks so they can include it with their library. Whenever the eBook sells, the site will get a percentage of the profit. You can also market your eBook on your own after you have published the product.

If you want to learn how to publish an eBook on your own, the best way to do so is to get eBook publishing software that will allow you to convert the document and walk you through the application for copyright and will also tell you how obtain an ISBN number.
