The sale of information is a hot property in online business. Many highly successful websites are filled with informational articles that are beneficial in both Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as well as providing visitors with a reason to come back.
There are entrepreneurs that would like to proceed with packaging the information they’ve compiled into a sellable ebook. Certain questions arise that have them wondering what they should do.
Let’s take a look at each question individually to see if we can help make sense of available steps to ebook publishing.
1) Do I have to have an ebook publisher to make my ebook available?
The simple answer is ‘no’. There are ebook publishers that are looking for new material, but you can develop your own material and convert it to an ebook for sale effectively bypassing typical ebook publishers.
2) Do I need to have my own website to sell an ebook?
A personal website is a great marketing and promotional tool, but is not absolutely essential to the effective distribution of ebooks. The use of an ebook reseller can be an effective means of providing your material to a broad customer base while removing the need to develop a website with shopping cart capabilities. A personal website can be linked to an ebook reseller so your personal website can be integrated for the management of downloads, distribution and payment collection for your work.
3) How do I take the idea from a few written notes to a viable knowledge-based ebook?
In most cases an ebook must be converted into a Portable Document File (pdf). This may sound simple enough, however, this file must also be compatible with ebook download procedures. Common ebook creating software can be used at no cost if you are seeking to make your ebook available at no cost. If you are placing restrictions on the use and distribution of the ebook there will likely be a fee involved in the development software for ebook creation.
As for the flow of the book you may find you are fully capable of putting all the pieces together or you might consider the use of a freelance writer or editor to put a polished touch to your work.
If you have skills in graphic design you can develop the cover you will post on your site although there are numerous low-cost alternatives to developing a unique cover for your ebook.
If you have an idea for a knowledge-based ebook you should consider following through with your idea, the development costs may be minimal, residual income long-term and the satisfaction of assisting others is priceless.

In the early days of Ebook publishing a writer’s resources for selling Ebooks were very limited. However, during the past decade, that scenario has changed dramatically. In this day and age it has never been easier to publish and sell Ebooks, due to the number of Ebook warehouses springing up all over the Internet.

With all these easily available resources, it has never been more convenient or simple to publish an Ebook. If you can write it, you can publish your writing and make money from it. Once you have created and formatted your Ebook you can simply begin researching for Ebook publishers. You will find thousands of them online.

From there you simply register an account with those publishing houses for which you believe you will make the most money from, and then you submit your Ebooks to their archive. These publishing warehouses will then carry out the marketing for your book and will additionally process all your sales for you. Generally, you and the Ebook publisher will share in the profit from your book.

The best part about this form of Ebook publishing is that there are very few things that you have to do other than write your book. Selling Ebooks has never been this easy! You will simply be able to sit back and collect your checks as your Ebooks begin to sell.

Selling Ebooks is a very effective way to generate additional income each month, or if you are a fast writer, you could turn your Ebook writing into a full-time job. In fact, there are thousands of people around the world who make their living from writing a handful of new Ebooks each month.

For authors considering an alternative to print publication for any reason – be it a desire for more creative control, faster turnaround on production, or a desire to experiment with a new medium – it is important to research an eBook publisher as closely as one would a print house.
Despite the stigmas placed on the industry, most eBook publishers are legitmate businesses interested in producing quality literature for sale. If an eBook publisher gains a reputation for poor editing and formatting, the books will simply not sell. Authors, in turn, will not want to risk being associated with a dubious company, and the house will ultimately fail.
In approaching an eBook publisher, an author should make note of a number of factors before deciding to send a manuscript. One thing to remember, if you do decide upon a house to contact, is to make sure all contact is conducted as professionally as possible. That said, here are a few things to look for in a reputable eBook publisher:
Website: Because an eBook publisher must rely primarily on the Internet to market and sell books, the publisher’s website is probably the most important element in their marketing campaign. Carefully study the publisher’s website. Does it look professionally designed and structured? Is is simple to navigate, or are books buried underneath useless pages of code? Does the website appear to be hosted on a good server, or is it built off a third-party free host with obligatory banner advertising? Are there any broken links? Can you order a book with ease? How much do the books cost? These are important things to note. If you have difficulty ordering or finding a book on the site, chances are readers may have a hard time finding your books, too.
Customer Service: To get the full effect of an eBook publisher in action, purchase a book. This is good practice, too, to determine the types of fiction or non-fiction they want.
Contact the publisher’s customer service department with questions or concerns about the book. How quickly do they respond? Do the response e-mails seem friendly or curt? Are your answers succinctly delivered? Remember, this is the customer service your readers will receive, so one thing you will want to determine is whether or not you want this voice to represent you. A non-responsive customer service department should be regarded as a warning for prospective authors.
Formatting: When you buy a book from the prospective publisher, take note of how it is formatted? Does it look professional, or slapped together? How many formats does the publisher offer? Is print an option? Does each book have an ISBN number? With regards to most eBook publishers, books are largely offered in at least three formats: HTML, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Reader. Other publishers may offer additional formats for specific eBook readers, like Gemstar and the defunct Hiebook.
Depending upon the publisher, print versions of certain books may be offered, either as print runs or in Print On Demand (POD) format. This is a good indication of whether or not the publisher requires print rights to contracted works. If so, it is important to note that the publisher may not exercise that right to every work in its catalog.
Guidelines: Looking at the eBook publisher’s website, can you find a page for submission guidelines? What genres are accepted? What lengths are accepted? Does the publisher offer special calls, themed stories or anthology pieces? For the aspiring author, such calls may be a good foot in the door. One can build a strong portfolio and build toward a more prolific career in writing. Study each publisher’s guidelines and choose the one that best suits your style and genre.
Contract: Does the publisher offer a sample contract online? What rights are exploited, and for how long? What percentage of net royalties go to the author? Look around the Internet, and you will find such percentages range from 30% to 50% for eBook sales.
What rights does the author retain? Will the publisher provide an ISBN and cover art? To what extent will the publisher promote your work? While many eBook publishers have low budgets for author promotion, some may offer to subsidize costs of banner and print advertising. Regardless of where you will publish, you will be expected to pull your own weight where PR is concerned. Make sure, however, your rights are well protected in a fair contract.
Distributorship: Where are the eBooks sold? Are they made available only through the publisher, or through third-party retailers like Fictionwise and Amazon.com? If print editions are available, are they available through a major distributor like Ingrams. Are the books registered with Books in Print? Given the nature of eBooks, publishers are limited with regards to marketing, so it would be wise to research how well a publisher takes advantage of every possible avenue, for the exposure of their books.
Track Record: How long has the publisher been in business? Has any Internet research turned up negative reports on the publisher with regards to editorial and customer issues? If you are interested in a particular publisher, contact some authors associated with them and inquire if they have been pleased with them. Check the Preditors and Editors website and other watchdog sites for any warnings. As the industry grows, so does the need to protect writers from being swindled. Past years have seen authors lose thousands of dollars to dubious vanity presses which promised much and delivered little. With the simplicity of eBook production, this could open the doors to a number of “fly by night” operations designed to take advantage of the naive. Do your research!
With thorough investigation of each eBook publisher, an author can make an educated decision about novel submission. The right match can make for great success for the author and publisher.

The sale of information is a hot property in online business. Many highly successful websites are filled with informational articles that are beneficial in both Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as well as providing visitors with a reason to come back. Can visit www.create-free-pdf.com. There are entrepreneurs that would like to proceed with packaging the information they’ve compiled into a sellable ebook. Certain questions arise that have them wondering what they should do.Let’s take a look at each question individually to see if we can help make sense of available steps to ebook publishing.1) Do I have to have an ebook publisher to make my ebook available? The simple answer is ‘no’. There are ebook publishers that are looking for new material, but you can develop your own material and convert it to an ebook for sale effectively bypassing typical ebook publishers.2) Do I need to have my own website to sell an ebook?A personal website is a great marketing and promotional tool, but is not absolutely essential to the effective distribution of ebooks. The use of an ebook reseller can be an effective means of providing your material to a broad customer base while removing the need to develop a website with shopping cart capabilities. A personal website can be linked to an ebook reseller so your personal website can be integrated for the management of downloads, distribution and payment collection for your work.3) How do I take the idea from a few written notes to a viable knowledge-based ebook? In most cases an ebook must be converted into a Portable Document File (PDF). This may sound simple enough; however, this file must also be compatible with ebook download procedures. Common ebook creating software can be used at no cost if you are seeking to make your ebook available at no cost. If you are placing restrictions on the use and distribution of the ebook there will likely be a fee involved in the development software for ebook creation. Visit www.pdf-stampers.com.

Browse around the Internet, and you will definitely see how many websites are taking advantage of the literary wave of the future: electronic books. Some websites serve as online repositories of public domain material, offering novels and documents for educational and recreational purposes. Online retailers like Fictionwise and Amazon.com offer downloadable, electronic versions of top selling books, and aspiring writers are taking advantage of the medium to establish readership.
One eBook publisher specializing in erotic romance titles claims to sell thirty thousand eBooks a month! Other small publishers of eBooks are proud to mention how they first published authors who now rank among the hottest sellers today.
For the author struggling to get his foot in the door of the publishing industry, publishing through electronic means may sound appealing. Compared to most traditional print publishers, eBook publishers tend to offer a higher percentage of royalties on net sales and allow for more author input on promotion and cover art. Turnaround time between submission and book release may be shorter, as production may not be as involved. However, as with any industry, there are caveats to consider.
For all the benefits of taking your book to an electronic publisher, there are also disadvantages one needs to realize. Any author preparing to take a manuscript to an editor or publisher should be aware.
Limited distribution
First, let me qualify this section by stating that even if you are fortunate to have a book placed with a traditional print publisher, it is not an automatic guarantee that your book will be on the shelves of every bookstore in the country. True, if your publisher distributes inventory through a third-party vendor like Ingrams or Baker and Taylor, your book will most certainly be available for order by customers and booksellers.
But, given the number of books published each year and the amount of available shelf space in stores, there is sadly not enough room for everybody. When booksellers attend trade shows and study their own sales, they are going to make decisions based upon a book’s salability and the behaviors of their customers. A store that does a whopping business in mystery novels will likely not saturate shelves with computer manuals.
For the eBook author, opportunities for distribution are limited even further. Though some major chain bookstores are dipping toes into the eBook world by offering download versions of books through their websites, it will be years before one finds an eBook kiosk at the local shop. For now, eBook authors must rely upon the online resources available to them. They include direct sales from the publisher, third-party eBook retailers like Fictionwise and Diesel Books, and direct sales of books on CD-ROM at signings and other book events.
The last entry may prove daunting for some authors who must aversion to buying a book on disc, but depending on the event one might be surprised to know how well eBooks sell. The annual book fair connected to the Romantic Times convention, for example, attracts a number of readers willing to make such purchases.
Uphill battle with stigmas
“I would rather read a ‘real book’.”
“All eBooks are poorly edited.”
“eBook publishers will take anything. The books aren’t good.”
“That’s too much to pay for something I can’t touch.”
As somebody who has written and published eBooks, I’ve heard these and many other disparaging remarks about the industry. Suffice to say, it is true that there are a number of dubious eBook companies in existence that typify the above sentiments. Sadly, the shoddy workmanship of said companies threatens to define the industry as a whole, and it is a stigma every eBook author must face when promoting his work.
Let us consider the above statements one by one.
Buying a “real” book: the traditionalist can argue all he wants, but a good eBook is a real book. It is a tangible object in disk form, a visual object that can be read. Most eBook publishers assign ISBN numbers to works and register them with the US Copyright Office and Books in Print, especially if print formats are forthcoming. eBook novels have plots, dialogue, characters, a beginning, middle, and end.
Despite this, there will always exist people resistant to new technology and methods of providing information. It can be argued that curling up with a good book cannot be achieved with an eBook, but it is possible if a person has a handheld reader instead of a desktop computer. As the quality of eBooks rises, so may the number of converts. Until then, eBook authors must face the challenge of selling head-on.
Editing and eBooks: As mentioned before, there are eBook companies that exist mainly as mills, churning out books without thought to editing, formatting, and promotion. Obviously such companies should be avoided. However, as larger companies come to embrace the technology, so comes the careful attention to detail prevalent in the publishing industry. Authors who approach eBook publishers for a possible relationship should research their editing schedules and skills. Yes, most houses do have editors on staff, capable, learned people devoted to polishing a book to perfection. As the industry grows, so too will acknowledgement of this fact.
eBook publishers and acceptance: With some genres, quantity is as important as quality. For the romance industry, it is not uncommon for a publisher to produce twenty to fifty titles a month in order to feed the demand. As romance and erotica are two popular genres among eBook readers, it may stand to reason that publishers will accept everything under the sun in order to meet the demand. Any author published electronically, therefore, may be lumped into an undesirable caste.
This is not always the case. As the industry grows and the demand for books grows, so too will these smaller houses become more selective in choosing works. Already, there are a few eBook publishers that offer low percentage of acceptance. Authors should be aware of this fact, and consider eBook publishing as a “safety net.”
Ebooks and expense: To look at the eBook versions of top bestsellers, one might blanch at the prospect of paying hardcover price for the digital version of the same book. Why fork over twenty-five dollars for what amounts to a computer document when there is something tangible at the bookstore? It should be noted, though, that not all eBooks are this cost prohibitive. Depending upon length and genre, many eBook publishers offer books ranging from two to seven dollars, which is quite a bargain when you consider the rising cost of paperbacks.
Plus, the eBook industry allows for publication of shorter lengths at special prices, which is good for readers who favor novellas over epics.
Though there are many arguments for eBooks in this realm, it may still be difficult to convince new readers to give them a try. Any eBook author should continue to promote the positive aspects of the presentation of their work.
Contract caveats
As with any publisher, it is important to carefully read any contract before signing. An author desperate to sell may only gloss over a contract, and therefore miss some very important items that can affect the future of the contracted work.
A reputable eBook publisher will offer a contract that is friendly to the author and the work. Authors uncertain of contract red flags are encouraged to visit the site of the Electronically Published Internet Connection for detailed information. For an author who is able to contract print rights to a traditional publisher, it should be imperative to research for how long the eBook house has those rights, if they claim them. Often, those rights are contracted in the event the eBook house decides to offer print titles, and some may not be so accommodating if you wish to get out of your contract.
Read every contract you are offered, or have a lawyer read them for you. Ask questions of the publisher if you are unsure of some things.
Regardless of whether or not you decide to take traditional routes in your search for a publisher, always be aware of the pros and cons of every industry. Armed with this knowledge, you will be able to make a smooth transition to publication in any format.
